Dr. David Varland, D.D.S.
Cosmetic dentist David Varland was born and raised in Rockford , Illinois. Dr. Varland received his Bachelor’s Degree in Science from the University of Illinois, followed by graduate work in biochemistry at Northern Illinois University. In 1981, he graduated from Northwestern University Dental School and subsequently completed a Residency in Hospital Dentistry at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. In 1984, he joined the Rockford practice of Dr. Louis V. Fourie, with whom he worked until Dr. Fourie’s retirement in 1988.
David A. Varland, D.D.S., is a member of the Winnebago County Dental Society, Illinois State Dental Society, American Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, the SimPlant® Academy, and the Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine. He earned his Fellowship Award from the International Congress of Oral Implantologists in 2004 and has received certificates from the Dawson Center for Advanced Dental Study, The L.D. Pankey Institute, and The Misch International Implant Institute.
Dr. Varland’s postgraduate education in dentistry is geared toward providing the most effective technology and comfortable care to his patients in a warm, friendly environment. In addition to being dedicated to his work, Dr. Varland enjoys spending time with his family and friends and participating in a range of outdoor activities.

Tracy McConnell
Registered Dental Hygienist
Tracy received her Associate Degree in Applied Science for Dental Hygiene from Rock Valley College in 2003. She is certified in Implant Care by the International Congress of Oral Implantology. She is also a member of the American Dental Hygiene Association and joined Dr. Varland’s team in 1994. Tracy has worked as dental assistant, dental hygienist, and financial coordinator for Dr. Varland. Married with two children, she spends her free time reading, camping, vacationing, watching her daughter and son play sports, and enjoying time with family and friends.

Cindi Baumgartner
Registered Dental Hygienist
Cindi, who has worked in this practice for nearly three decades, received her Associate Degree in Dental Hygiene from Southern Illinois University. She is certified in Implant Care by the International Congress of Oral Implantology and is a member of the American Dental Hygiene Association. She enjoys gardening, playing with her dog, and riding motorcycles with her husband.

Dental Assistant
A lifelong resident of the Rockford area, Lisa attended Rock Valley College for Dental Assisting and has worked for Dr. Varland since 1994. In her free time, she enjoys gardening, outdoor activities, cooking, shopping, and spending time with her husband and daughter.

Pat Wilson
Dental Assistant
A native of Upper Peninsula Michigan who attended Rock Valley College for Dental Assisting, Pat has worked with Dr. Varland since 1996. Her favorite pastimes include reading, watching movies, shopping, and spending time with her husband, children, and grandchildren.

Jody Thompson
Office Manager/Scheduling Coordinator
A 24-year veteran of the dental field, Jody has worked with Dr. Varland since 1989. In addition to making sure that our office runs smoothly, the Rockford native has served as a consultant for other dental practices, advising them on how to build more efficient front-office and scheduling procedures, as well as teaching them how to improve their patient management. Jody enjoys spending time with her two daughters and counts softball, outdoor activities, friends, and family among her favorite things.

Financial Coordinator
Born in Rockford, Karin has worked with Dr. Varland for 20 years. She is married with two daughters and one son and enjoys reading, shopping, cheering on the sidelines at her children’s sporting events, and spending time with family and friends.

Your First Visit
In order for us to make appropriate recommendations for improving and maintaining your dental health, we will complete a thorough examination on your first visit to the cosmetic dentist. Your examination at our Rockford , Illinois office will consist of a combination of the following:

- Complete documentation of existing dental work
